One of the premier universities in China, Fudan University was founded in 1905. Fudan is a world-renowned institution pursuing collaborative efforts with universities around the globe. The word “Fudan” literally means “continuous heavenly light”, representing independence and industry. The High School Affiliated to Fudan University (HSAFU) was founded in 1950 as a common high school directly subordinate to the university and the Ministry of Education. In the tradition of excellence established by Fudan University, HSAFU became one of the leading high schools in China.
An international division serving students from Hong Kong and Macao was formed in 1994. In 2002, the mission of this international division was expanded to allow foreign passport holders to study a Chinese curriculum.
FIS opened in September, 2006 with a 10th grade class of 11 students. As of September 2009, the school enrolls 170 students (85 boys and 85 girls) from grades 1 through 12. All students must be holders of foreign passport or green cards from other than PRC. Our current student body consists of 35 Americans, 33 Japanese, 29 Koreans, 19 from Hong Kong, 18 Taiwanese, 4 from India, 4 Russians, 4 from UK, 4 Singaporeans, 3 Canadians, 2 from Israel, 2 from Denmark, 2 Indonesians, 2 Australians, 2 Malaysians, 2 from New Zealand, 2 from Poland, 1 from Holland, 1 South African, and 1 from Papua Guinea. FIS currently enrolls 27 seniors, 28 juniors, 38 sophomores and 25 freshmen in high school. In the middle school, we currently enroll combined 15 sixth and seventh graders, and 15 eighth graders. In the elementary school, we currently enroll 9 first graders, 4 third graders and 9 combined fourth and fifth graders.
